On this home page of my website you find the index to all posts. Clicking any post will open it, and from there you can again go forward to a gallery, a bunch of images. If you click on one of those images you get into a slideshow which has some clever red buttons on the top right (some posts link directly to a slideshow with white buttons). On all other pages the menu button on the top right ( ≡ ) gives access to background information. The logo on the top left is also the home button.

Antonello da Messina in Den Haag

The Crucifixion by Antonello da Messina is an extraordinary painting in the Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp, but since the museum is currently closed for restaurations some of the most important works are wandering around.Antonello (c.1430–1479) is a key figure in the history of European painting. How it happened we don’t really know, but…

Firenze

The centre of Firenze is small, easily covered on foot. End of September, beginning of October is a very pleasant time. Lots of tourists though, can’t imagine why… Even so, we could stop at a terrace here or there and enjoy the old town. The walk starts from the Duomo, then south towards the Orsanmichele…

Impressions from Venezia

Venice has been one of my favorite places since long time. We first visited it in 1990-91 but the photos on this site are from 2007, 2013 and 2017. The 2007 photos were taken with the Olympus SP550UZ and the Pentax Optio S7, the 2013 photos with a Canon 100D and the 2017 photos with…

Gallerie dell’Accademia, Venezia

The Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice houses some of my favourite works of art like the Lamentazione by Bellini (1434/9 – 1516). Lamentation over the Dead Christ with Joseph of Arimathea, the Virgin and Mary Magdalene, between St. Martha and Philip Benizi. In the landscape we see the Magi on the left and the shepherds on…

Val Bregaglia

For a long time we have been going to the Engadin in Switzerland, and we usually make a day-trip to Val Bregaglia, on the easternmost side. Maloja is the last town in the Engadin and beyond it the so-called Maloja pass tumbles down into Val Bregaglia with some 12 hairpins. The first town is Cassacia,…

A Trip to Paris (and other places)

In May 2017 we went twice to Paris. First time to see some expositions (to be published), this time with a Brazuco  couple, relatives of Marilene, who wanted to see some places, especially Paris. On the way going there we stopped in Brugge (after visiting Abbenbroek where I was born and the Delta works). On…

Santa Catarina 2017

Santa Catarina has some of the loveliest landscapes in Brazil. Both the beaches and the mountains are full of hidden gems, and there are many pleasant towns. The famous Ilha de Santa Catarina, often referred to as Florianópolis or short Floripa is in itself a marvel (apart from some traffic bottle necks). Now really Florianópolis…
